Emily Clare, MA, RCC

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Emily is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care, both from the University of Victoria. Emily supports children and youth ages 5-20 who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and self-esteem challenges. She also has experience working with anger, peer difficulties, and life-stage transitions. Emily views the involvement of the family system as an essential component of therapeutic work with youth. She works closely with caregivers to ensure treatment is holistic.

Emily’s personal counselling style is gentle, warm, and compassionate. She uses empathy and unconditional positive regard to build strength-based relationships with her clients, and to assist them in fostering resiliency to overcome life’s challenges. With teen clients, Emily incorporates elements of Narrative therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These are evidence-based approaches that help clients connect their thoughts, behaviours, and emotions, while remaining grounded in the present.

Emily has also completed level 1 of Play Therapy training through the Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute (RMPTI). With younger clients, Emily prioritizes incorporating elements of fun and creativity into therapy sessions to help clients feel more comfortable and better able to express themselves through play and art.
